Cooper School Feasibility Analysis - Shenandoah, PA

This project is in: All Projects, Civic and Cultural Planning and Design

Our task was to determine this historic, vacant former school building’s current condition, explain its architectural significance, and explore possibilities for new viable uses, to demonstrate whether reuse could be feasible and to help the town’s current leadership and citizens envision a future for the beloved but badly deteriorated building. We produced a 40 page report with several appendices, documenting conditions and recommending best treatments to protect against further decay.  We also produced architectural concept plans to show how a complex reuse project could be designed to suit the building, as well as how reuse could be phased into reality. Our plans also showed how the building’s site development could be a springboard for new downtown redevelopment, linking the site with Main Street, and developing new urban park space.
