Market Square Design Guidelines - Manheim, PA

This project is in: All Projects, Civic and Cultural Planning and Design

Following a December 1998 fire that destroyed three buildings on Market Square, we were engaged by the Borough of Manheim to develop design standards for renovation and new infill construction. In community meetings we trained citizens to notice the town planning and architectural characteristics that make the square unique. We compiled a detailed booklet that examined the functional configuration and architectural characteristics of Market Square, and presented design guidelines and planning principles for future development on the square. This project received the Pennsylvania Downtown Center’s annual award for Downtown Physical Improvements.
