Lancaster Central Market Preservation and Development Planning
Over a two-year period, our team produced a 370 page illustrated Guidebook and Appendix of Resources to inform decision-makers and guide project architects in all major deliberations and design decisions before the economic, physical design, and construction decisions would be made.
A permanent public record and educational tool, the Guidebook documents and explains the market’s historical, cultural, architectural, and urban design significance. The community and all future decision-makers may consult it to understand and appreciate critical challenges and opportunities in the long-term cultural resource management and stewardship of the market, its site, and surrounding historic working district.
This study redefined the city’s role from basic property management to cultural stewardship of the market activity, the site, its historic buildings and district.
“This comprehensive study … connected the importance of architectural preservation, urban development history, and cultural heritage, to present planning and development decisions.”- APA Jury
